Summary examples

Pick the one closest to your situation and adjust it.

  • Backend developer with 5 years in Java and Go, focused on payment systems that handle millions of transactions a day. Comfortable owning a service from design to on-call.

  • Mobile developer with 6 years in Swift and Kotlin. Shipped 9 apps with 2 million downloads in total and an average rating of 4.7 stars.

Skills to include

  • JavaScript / TypeScript
  • A front-end framework such as React
  • Node.js, Python, Java or Go
  • SQL and database design
  • Git and code review
  • Automated testing
  • Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • CI/CD and Docker
  • System design
  • Clear written communication

How to write it

Lead with results, not tasks

“Built the checkout page” says what you did. “Built the checkout page, raising conversion by 12%” says why it mattered. Add a number wherever you can: speed, users, money or time saved.

Name technologies in context

List your main stack under skills, then show it at work in your experience: “Moved the reporting service to Python and PostgreSQL.” Applicant tracking systems look for these words.

Link to your work

A GitHub profile, a portfolio or a live project lets the reader check your work in a minute. Put the link next to your contact details.

Keep it to one or two pages

One page is enough with less than 10 years of experience. Shorten old or unrelated jobs to one line, or leave them out.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Listing every technology you have ever touched. Keep the ones you could discuss in an interview.
  • Describing duties (“responsible for maintenance”) instead of what you achieved.
  • Hiding your best project at the bottom. Put your strongest work first.
